Production - Material Handler

Job Summary: The material handler is responsible for keeping production equipment supplied, maintaining plant floor areas clean, and ensuring correct usage of materials, including resins and regrind. Key Responsibilities: 1. Maintain supply and cleanliness of production equipment 2. Ensure correct usage of materials and resins (FIFO) 3. Forklift operation skills and knowledge of quality management systems A. Duties and Responsibilities The material handler reports to the Shift Supervisor and is responsible for ensuring all production equipment is supplied with all necessary materials. They are also responsible for maintaining cleanliness of plant floor areas and using appropriate procedures during cleaning. Machines must remain free of spilled plastic pellets. The material handler is responsible for the following tasks within the molding area: 1\. Immediately notify the supervisor if a task cannot be performed or completed as required. 2\. No item shall be transported without proper identification. If material is found without appropriate identification, Quality or the Supervisor must be notified immediately. 3\. Ensure materials are consumed in FIFO (First-In, First-Out) order. 4\. Responsible for keeping machine hoppers full and covered, and grinders empty at all times. 5\. Must be familiar with all types of resins used and ultimately responsible for ensuring the correct material is being used for the job by consulting operating instructions and/or setup sheets to determine the correct material required for the job. 6\. The material handler will blend color concentrate when required. 7\. Must ensure maximum allowable regrind is consumed in each molding process. 8\. All hoppers and dryers must remain covered at all times and labeled with the appropriate material identification tag (if applicable). 9\. Grinding must be performed promptly, and grinding scoops must be emptied periodically before overflow occurs. 10\. Virgin and regrind material must be covered and stored in separate, clearly labeled containers. 11\. All unused material must be returned to raw material inventory. 12\. Maintain direct communication with material handlers of the next shift to coordinate/anticipate mold changes and required tasks. 13\. Immediately notify the Supervisor if any item is running low on inventory to prevent potential shortages. 14\. Break container seals\- 15\. Responsible for ensuring all products (when applicable) are scanned before being moved to the warehouse. 16\. Flow racks must be stored with empty containers, and all required components must be maintained per production requirements. When a job is not running, all packaging and components must be removed and stored in the approved area. 17\. Waste in the cell must be removed before the end of the shift. Raw Material Changeover 1\. Turn off the loader to stop material feed. 2\. If necessary, drain remaining material from the loader or dryer and return it to storage prior to the next production run. 3\. Disassemble the loader or dryer and clean out all previous material. 4\. Inspect the loader or dryer to ensure all pellets and dust have been removed. 5\. Reassemble the loader or dryer. 6\. Ensure the correct material identification chip (if applicable) is installed on the dryer or loader. 7\. Ensure the dryer log sheet has been updated to reflect the new material or lot. Grinder Cleaning 1\. Turn off the main power switch and unplug the grinder; then lock out the main connection. 2\. If necessary, remove remaining regrind from the hopper and store it in the raw material storage area. 3\. Use a vacuum cleaner to thoroughly clean the hopper and corners of the hopper of all particles. 4\. Disassemble the grinder, ensuring blades and screen are free of previous material using vacuum. 5\. Replace and tighten all items that were removed. 6\. Sweep the grinder area to ensure all pellets have been removed. 7\. Plug in the grinder and turn on the main power switch to resume grinding. The above list represents the primary daily responsibilities and duties of this position. B. Minimum Requirements 1\. High school diploma; experience in material handling or injection molding. C. Required Skills 1\. Forklift operation. 2\. Understanding of key procedures of Quality and Environmental Management Systems related to the job function. 3\. Completion of forms and labels.
