This role requires deep technical expertise, strong communication skills, and the ability to think holistically about **how systems evolve over time**. You will work closely with engineering, DevOps, product, and security teams to ensure our migration and modernization efforts are executed with **minimal risk**, high reliability, and clarity of testing approach.
You will not only guide what needs to be tested, but also why and how, ensuring test architecture, tooling, data flows, and CI/CD processes support the long\-term direction of the platform. This includes shaping test frameworks, leading testing strategy across multiple teams, and mentoring engineers to elevate quality practices at scale.
Responsibilities:
* Define and lead the **end\-to\-end test strategy** for a phased platform migration, ensuring clarity on the current state, target state, and transition approach.
* Architect **scalable and reusable** test automation frameworks (component, integration, end\-to\-end, API, and performance).
* Collaborate with engineering leadership to determine **what tests need to be built, what needs to coexist, and where risk is highest.**
* Work closely with teams involved in **IDP migration** (e.g., Okta Auth0\), ensuring test coverage accounts for user action flows and identity management behavior.
* Ensure test automation supports and **is fully integrated into CI/CD workflows** (GitHub Actions).
* Guide testing related to **data migration**, ensuring validation of behavior, state, and compatibility across existing and new systems.
* Support testing for **SOCKS\-relevant** connectivity to ensure compliance and traceability.
* Partner with platform and DevOps teams on testing implications related to **AWS**, **Kubernetes/AKS,** and environment configuration.
* Lead migration risk discussions: determine what changes now, what remains, and how to reduce disruption.
* Provide architectural direction for automation tooling (e.g., **Playwright**, API test frameworks).
* Mentor and advise a **Quality Engineering organization** individuals, elevating testing maturity and technical capability.
* Measure and report test automation metrics, including code, function, and test case coverage.
* Operate autonomously, even within a loosely\-defined scope.
* Require very little oversight beyond high level direction.
* Show initiative beyond knocking tasks off a list and able to identify their own areas of future work for themselves and their team.
* Work effectively within a team environment, to regularly solicit and act on feedback, focus on root causes, and continually strive to improve.
* Review code throughout the software development lifecycle.
* Create tools that can be used by others.
* Take part in software design discussions and planning discussions.
### **Qualifications**
* **7\+ years of experience** in Software Quality Engineering, Test Automation, or Software Engineering roles, with significant experience guiding test strategy.
* Ability to work in a fast\-paced, iterative development environment with short turn\-around times.
* Demonstrated ownership of **test architecture** for large\-scale system migrations or modernization projects.
* **Good understanding of Service Oriented Architecture.**
* **Experience with client\-side performance optimization, security, and accessibility.**
* Strong experience designing and implementing **test frameworks** (Playwright or similar UI/API automation tools).
* Engineering practices such as refactoring, TDD, pair programming, and code reviews.
* Deep understanding of CI/CD pipelines (e.g., GitHub Actions) and how authentication dependencies influence automated testing.
* Experience working with **authentication identity providers**, ideally authentication migrations (e.g., **Okta Auth0**).
* Strong SQL knowledge and experience working with **MySQL and PostgreSQL.**
* Familiarity with cloud and orchestration environments such as **AWS** and **Kubernetes / AKS.**
* Excellent communication and collaboration skills — able to work closely with product, engineering, and platform teams.
* Strong ability to prioritize based on **risk**, impact, and business milestones.
* Experience working in **Agile environments** and guiding multiple teams on testing best practices.
