Compliance with safety procedures **Job Description** **SUMMARY** The Forklift Materials Handler loads, unloads, and moves materials within or near the warehouse, performs cross-docking at the dock, trailers, yard, or worksite while performing the following tasks. **ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES** Additional duties and responsibilities may be assigned.* Read work orders or follow verbal instructions to ensure that the correct materials or containers are being moved. * Receive items for shipment, visually inspect them to identify type, quantity, and condition. Check for obvious damage and segregate items requiring special handling. * Open containers according to work instructions or supervisor instructions. * Load and unload materials onto pallets, trays, or shelves, manually or using forklifts or other material-handling equipment. * Load materials onto carrier vehicles and install straps, binders, or logistics bars (chocks) to prevent material movement or transit damage. * Accurately complete shipping and receiving documents per ProTrans specifications using the barcode scanner. * Count, weigh, and record the number of units of material handled or moved in the PTI system. * Ensure proper identification. Mark all shipments and apply appropriate labels, including special material handling instructions. * Coordinate transportation requirements. Address any special material-handling issues. Collect data to prepare reports. * Store incoming or outgoing cargo awaiting processing. Organize materials into bundles and wrap them per work instructions. * Lift heavy objects manually or with powered equipment, clean the work area, machines, and motorized equipment. Conduct daily safety and equipment inspections. * Operate machinery such as stretch-wrapping equipment, strapping machines, and sealers. * Follow all safety procedures. Actively work to improve individual and facility safety records. * Actively work to improve quality.
