Leads customer training and support in the creation, design, configuration, validation, installation, commissioning, and operation of automation and/or protection systems. Leads assignment, execution, and implementation of work within agreed scope, schedule, and budget while maintaining high standards of quality and safety. Supports identification, preparation, and presentation of successful proposals for SEL equipment, services, and systems. Mentors and develops professional staff. May supervise as required. Models, teaches, and applies SEL Values, Operating Principles, and World-Class Manufacturing Principles. **Understand. Create. Simplify.** Other duties as assigned. **Required Qualifications** **Project Engineer II – Protection** **Desired Qualifications** * Experience with electric utilities, industrial plants, engineering consulting firms, or system integration companies. * Experience in project management. * Practical knowledge of Vision or other project tracking and management software. **Areas of Focus** **General Focus** Protection, Automation, Design, Studies, Commissioning, Security, Networks, and Project Management. **Automation** Software, integration, and automation; industrial controls; PLCs; industrial protocols (IEC 61850, DNP3, Modbus); Ethernet systems; protocol analyzers; and industry SCADA practices. **Business Development** Identifies, negotiates, and manages strategic business relationships. Develops opportunities and leads. Works with engineering teams to develop competitive proposals and secure customer purchase orders. Develops targeted sales efforts focused on strategic customers and markets. **Civil** Civil design and engineering theory, principles, and applications; structural and constructability design of power substations, including equipment, grading, drainage, and applicable foundation types. **Commissioning** Performs field commissioning and acceptance testing; trains and supports customers in equipment installation, commissioning, and operation. Willingness to travel up to **80%**. **Design** Analysis of technical specifications; creation of detailed physical and electrical designs, bill of materials, and project cost estimates. **Networks** Experience in industrial control system networks, including provisioning, design, testing, and implementation of LAN and WAN networks. **Project Management** Full lifecycle management of multiple large, multidisciplinary projects—from proposal conception through commissioning and closeout. Effective project tracking, obstacle resolution, and anticipation of customer needs. **Proposals** Review of customer RFQ documents for technical specifications and scope. Evaluation of bid/no-bid decisions, development of scope of work, preliminary designs, responsibility matrix, risk assessment, cash flow analysis, and preliminary schedules. Strong understanding of SEL’s full ES portfolio and effective use to develop comprehensive solutions. Collaboration with Contracts team to finalize terms and conditions. **Protection** Power system protection, protective relays and their applications, settings, and testing. **Security** Experience in industrial control system security, including technical controls, security assessments, policies, plans, and procedures. Knowledge of **NERC CIP** compliance and/or **NIST SP800** security requirements. **Studies** Proven experience using **PSS®E, ETAP and/or RTDS**. Solid knowledge of power systems.
