Together, we are building a better world, so we can all enjoy living in it. **Role Definition:** The incumbent of this position is responsible for performing ultrasonic inspection of welds on manufactured products to support achievement of quality goals, as well as providing support in metallurgical inspection of raw materials for purchased products, manufactured parts, subcontracted components, and new products. **Job Responsibilities:** * Perform ultrasonic inspections to verify weld quality. * Maintain TUV (Technical Inspection Association) certification to conduct ultrasonic inspections on PED/PE(S)R (Pressure Equipment Directive/Pressure Equipment Safety Requirements) products. * Provide backup support in the absence of the Laboratory Technician/Engineer to perform metallurgical tests, ensuring continuity of area operations. * Support tracking of subcontracted parts, material movements, and system transactions to determine material disposition. * Advise line inspectors on ultrasonic inspections to support resolution of quality issues. * Prepare inspection result reports to keep supervisors informed and maintain control records. * Perform activities aligned with this role to comply with Caterpillar’s established policies and practices regarding safety, health, and environmental protection. * Complete job-related courses listed in the Workday learning curriculum and perform duties in accordance with the Caterpillar Production System (CPS) parameters and guidelines. **Education Requirements:** * Completed high school diploma or technical/vocational degree in Metallurgical-Mechanical fields (e.g., Metallurgy, Industrial Engineering, Machine Tools, or related disciplines). **What Skills You’ll Have:** **Decision Making and Critical Thinking:** * Recognize situations requiring immediate decisions, especially when non-conforming results occur during ultrasonic or metallurgical inspections. * Apply technical and regulatory criteria to determine acceptance or rejection of inspected materials. * Promptly communicate issues requiring collaborative decisions to supervisors and production teams. * Clearly identify decision-making authority limits and appropriately escalate cases beyond their scope. * Document and justify decisions in technical reports to ensure traceability and audit readiness. **Problem Solving:** * Timely detect deviations or anomalies in processes, materials, or inspection results. * Analyze root causes using basic tools such as Ishikawa diagrams, Five Whys, or cause-and-effect analysis. * Propose practical and effective solutions, considering established procedures and quality best practices. * Collaborate with other teams (production line, supervision, laboratory) to jointly and efficiently resolve problems. * Prevent recurrence through implementation of controls, follow-up, and feedback. **Effective Communication:** * Convey technical information clearly and accurately, both verbally and in writing—especially when preparing inspection reports and communicating results to supervisors and line teams. * Accurately interpret verbal and non-verbal messages, recognizing signals that may indicate doubts, errors, or process issues. * Adapt communication style based on audience—whether technical staff, line inspectors, or suppliers—using appropriate and professional language. * Practice active listening and respond clearly to foster teamwork and collaborative problem solving. * Use available communication tools correctly—including digital systems, forms, emails, and technical reports. **Ideal Candidates Will Have:** * Knowledge of engineering drawing interpretation. * Knowledge of trigonometry and analytical geometry. * Proficiency in using basic measurement equipment. * Willingness to travel occasionally for off-site inspections (<20%). **Position Details:** * This position is located in Santa Catarina, N.L. * Shift rotation is required. * Work schedule is Monday through Saturday. * Relocation assistance is not provided. **Final Details** Please regularly check the email associated with your application—including your spam/junk folder—as this is our primary method of correspondence.
