Contribute real-world knowledge to a vibrant international school community We are seeking an enthusiastic and technically proficient Design \& Technology Specialist to join our Secondary team, teaching across our integrated STEM/ICT/Design \& Technology curriculum in Key Stage 3 (Years 7\-9\) and the Cambridge IGCSE Design \& Technology (0445\) in Key Stage 4 (Years 10\-11\). We are looking for someone who can maximize the educational potential of our available resources, including a laser cutter, 3D printers, and basic workshop tools such as dremels and hand tools. The successful candidate will be supported in their pedagogical development to become an outstanding educator. ### **KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:** * Effectively teach the Cambridge IGCSE Design \& Technology syllabus, including one of the optional specialist areas (Resistant Materials, Systems \& Control, or Graphic Products) in Years 10\-11, guiding students through coursework and examination preparation. * Design, plan, and deliver engaging lessons in Key Stage 3 (Years 7\-9\) that ensure a broad and progressive foundation to effectively prepare students for the IGCSE Design \& Technology course. * Incorporate elements of engineering principles, basic programming, and ICT skills, including digital research, presentation, and data analysis, into design and making projects in Key Stage 3\. * Guide students in the safe and effective use of basic workshop tools (e.g., hand tools, dremels, laser cutter, 3D printers, etc.), to enable complex and innovative student projects. * Provide instruction in Computer\-Aided Design (CAD) software for 2D technical drawing, 3D modeling, and rendering, as well as Computer\-Aided Manufacturing (CAM) processes specifically for laser cutting and 3D printing. * Teach a diverse range of topics such as product design, materials science, sustainable innovation, electronics, and control systems, adapting projects to available equipment. * Develop and implement authentic assessment strategies that measure both theoretical understanding and practical competence, aligning with Cambridge IGCSE objectives and formative learning objectives in Years 7\-9\. * Provide timely, constructive, and actionable feedback to students, supporting their continuous progress and skill development. * Maintain accurate and thorough records of student attainment, effort, and pastoral care. * Foster students’ critical thinking, research skills, and ability to make informed aesthetic, economic, ethical, and technical value judgements. * Inspire student participation in design competitions, exhibitions, and relevant extracurricular activities. * Contribute enthusiastically to the broader life of the school, including clubs, events, and pastoral responsibilities. ### **THE IDEAL CANDIDATE WILL HAVE:** * **Qualifications:** * A Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in a relevant design, engineering or technology discipline (e.g., Industrial Design, Product Design, Mechanical Engineering, Architectural Design, Materials Technology, Digital Fabrication). * While a recognized teaching qualification (e.g., PGCE, QTS, B.Ed.) is highly desirable, it is not essential for candidates with exceptional relevant professional experience. **Experience:** * Significant practical experience in a design, engineering, or technology\-related industry, academic research, or substantial freelance/project\-based work. This could include roles in product development, prototyping, fabrication, digital design, or applied engineering. * Proven experience applying design thinking principles, problem\-solving methodologies, and technical skills in real\-world contexts. * Experience mentoring, training, or presenting complex technical information to diverse audiences is advantageous. * Familiarity with international design \& technology curricula (e.g., IGCSE Design \& Technology, IB MYP Design, IB DP Design Technology) is a plus. **Skills \& Knowledge:** * Demonstrated expertise and practical ability in core elements of product design and Resistant Materials, Systems \& Control, or Graphic Products.. * Strong knowledge of design principles, materials science, electronics, and control systems. * Ability to integrate basic programming/coding into design projects (e.g., Arduino, micro:bit, Python). * Exceptional hands\-on practical skills using basic tools, computer programmes, laser cutters and/or 3D printers. * Advanced proficiency in beginner/intermediate CAD/CAM software relevant to digital fabrication. * A strong theoretical understanding of a wider range of industrial manufacturing processes and CNC machines (e.g., milling, turning), as required by the IGCSE syllabus. * A natural aptitude for guiding, motivating, and inspiring young people, with a passion for fostering inquiry, innovation, and independent learning in others. * Strong organizational skills and an ability to manage practical environments effectively. * A willingness to develop classroom management techniques through professional development and mentorship. * A collaborative spirit, strong communication skills, and a willingness to contribute actively to interdisciplinary projects and school development. * A genuine desire to transition into teaching and a strong commitment to continuous professional growth in pedagogical practice.
