Two-stage review process: manuscript and post-typesetting. Position Summary We are hiring freelance Spanish transadaptation reviewers on a work\-for\-hire basis. Our curriculum has already been translated into Spanish; your role is to review the Spanish content against the English source — first as a manuscript review, and again after typesetting — to ensure the final published materials are scientifically accurate, instructionally equivalent, culturally appropriate for Texas Spanish\-speaking students, and visually correct. This is **not** a translation role and **not** a basic proofreading role. It is a transadaptation QA role that requires judgment about whether translated content actually works for the intended classroom — and a careful eye for catching issues that emerge during typesetting. What Transadaptation Review Means Here Translation gets the words right. Transadaptation gets the *learning experience* right. You will be checking that: * The Spanish version teaches the same scientific concepts as the English version * Examples, phenomena, and cultural references make sense to a Texas Spanish\-speaking student (e.g., regional foods, weather, geography, idioms) * Register and reading level match the target grade band (K–2, 3–5, 6–8, 9–12\) * Scientific terminology is correct and consistent with what Texas teachers and students expect * Embedded image text, labels, diagrams, and assessment items still function as intended * Sentence frames, vocabulary supports, and ELPS scaffolds remain effective in Spanish Scope of Work This is a two\-stage review process. You'll typically review the same document twice: once as a Word manuscript, and again after it has been laid out in InDesign and exported as a PDF. Stage 1: Manuscript Review (pre\-typesetting) * Compare Spanish .docx documents against English source documents using ADI's 26\-criterion Spanish Translation Quality Rubric (provided) * Apply Pass/Fail determinations across six review areas: scientific accuracy, ADI terminology, register, grammar, cultural appropriateness, and structural integrity * Produce a formal findings report with evidence, exact locations, and recommended Spanish replacements for any failures * Apply tracked changes to .docx files when revisions are requested * Flag image\-text issues for the design team (callouts, diagram labels, signs, etc.) * Provide a final determination per document: APPROVED / REVISIONS REQUESTED / REVISIONS REQUIRED Stage 2: Post\-Typesetting Review (after layout in InDesign) * Review the typeset PDF against the approved Spanish manuscript and English source * Verify all approved Stage 1 corrections were implemented correctly * Catch issues introduced during layout, including: * Text cutoffs, overflows, or missing content * Bad line breaks, hyphenation errors, and orphaned/widowed text * Incorrect Spanish accents, ñ, ¿/¡, and special characters * Image labels, callouts, and diagram text that may have been missed in translation * Page\-to\-page consistency in headers, footers, and styles * Spanish\-specific typography issues (em\-dash dialogue, quotation conventions) * Tables, write\-on lines, draw boxes, and answer key alignment * Cross\-references, page numbers, and table\-of\-contents accuracy * Produce a marked\-up PDF (using PDF comments/annotations) plus a written summary of issues * Sign off on the final version once all corrections are made Material Types Assignments may include any of the following: * Student handouts and workbooks (Grades K–12\) * Teacher lesson plans and facilitation notes * Leveled readers (K–5\) Required Qualifications * Native or near\-native fluency in Spanish, with strong working knowledge of Mexican Spanish conventions used in U.S. educational settings * Strong English reading comprehension (minimum CEFR C1\) — you must be able to read English source material with full nuance * 3\+ years of professional Spanish\-language QA, editorial, transadaptation, or educational content review experience * Experience reviewing typeset/laid\-out documents in PDF form, including catching layout, typography, and formatting issues * Strong written communication skills in English (for findings reports) * Comfort with Microsoft Word (tracked changes, comments, styles, tables) and Adobe Acrobat or equivalent PDF annotation tools * Attention to detail and ability to apply rubric\-based review consistently * Reliable internet, ability to meet deadlines, and responsive communication Preferred Qualifications * Background in K–12 education, science, or science education * Prior experience reviewing educational, scientific, or instructional content * Familiarity with U.S. Spanish\-speaking student populations, particularly in Texas or the broader U.S. Southwest * Familiarity with bilingual education, dual\-language, or ESL/ELL instructional contexts * Experience with style guides and terminology glossaries Work Arrangement * Freelance, project\-based, work\-for\-hire * NDA required before first assignment * 100% remote * Communication primarily via email; occasional video calls for onboarding or complex projects Compensation * Per\-page or hourly rate for both manuscript review and post\-typesetting review (USD) * Stage 1 and Stage 2 are billed separately * Paid monthly via wire transfer or PayPal * Rates discussed during the screening process Timeline \& Volume * Ongoing pipeline with rolling assignments through 2028 * Typical turnaround: 5–10 business days per unit for Stage 1; 3–5 business days for Stage 2, depending on length Job Type: Contract Contract length: 6 months Pay: $69\.00 \- $84\.00 per hour Experience: * Proofreading: 3 years (Required) * Translating: 3 years (Preferred) Work Location: Remote
