Preventive and corrective maintenance Fiber optic installation Responsibilities of a Splicing Technician Fiber optic splicing (fusion and mechanical): Performs precise connections between fiber optic cables using fusion splicers. Installation and configuration of optical networks: Installs NAP cabinets, optical distributors, trays, and other network components. Performs aerial or underground cable laying. Interprets network diagrams, cable routing plans, and splicing schematics to execute work correctly. Signal measurement and testing (OTDR, Power Meter): Uses specialized equipment to measure attenuation and verify splice quality and fiber continuity. Preventive and corrective maintenance: Conducts periodic inspections and repairs faults or breaks in the fiber optic network. Prepares progress reports, test reports, and splice records, as well as logs of materials used. Follows industrial and electrical safety protocols to prevent fieldwork hazards. Performs work at heights, in underground ducts, and under varying weather conditions.
