This role is ideal for **recent graduates or candidates with up to 1 year of experience**, eager to launch their career in financial technology within a mentorship- and continuous-learning-oriented environment. ### **What You’ll Do Daily** * Develop **REST APIs in Java** for mobile applications (iOS / Android). * Participate in building **BFF (Backend for Frontend)** layers. * Orchestrate data from multiple microservices. * Transform and adapt data for frontend consumption. * Collaborate with **mobile, backend, and architecture** teams. * Support testing, debugging, and continuous code improvement. * Document services, workflows, and integrations. * Clearly explain developed solutions. ### **✅** **Profile We’re Seeking** We seek individuals with: * Up to **1 year of experience**, or recent graduates. * Genuine interest in **backend development and APIs**. * Strong logical reasoning and curiosity about how systems interconnect. * Ability to learn quickly and progressively assume responsibility. ### **️** **Required Technical Knowledge** **Foundations (Mandatory):** * Object-oriented programming. * Basic data structures (lists, maps, collections). * Programming logic and problem-solving. * Basic error handling. * Client\-server concepts. **Backend / APIs:** * Java (solid foundation). * Understanding of **REST API** concepts. * HTTP methods (GET, POST, PUT, DELETE). * Use of **JSON**. * Consuming and exposing services. **Desirable (Not Required):** * Basic knowledge of **Spring Boot**. * Microservices. * API versioning. * Basic authentication (tokens, headers). ### **Key Skills** * Logical and structured thinking. * Attention to detail. * Ability to understand information flows. * Clear communication with both technical and non-technical stakeholders. * Curiosity about architecture and its impact on user experience. ### **Academic Requirements** Relevant degrees include: * Software Engineering * Systems Engineering * Computer Science * Information Technology Engineering ### **Language** * **Intermediate–Advanced English** (reading documentation and collaborating with international teams). * **Differentiators** * Experience developing APIs (academic or personal). * Projects connecting frontend and backend. * Repositories on **GitHub**. * Participation in collaborative projects. ### **Development Plan** You will join a **technical mentorship program**, where you can: * Work on real-world APIs. * Understand microservice-based architectures. * Progress toward roles such as: + Mid\-Level Backend Developer + API Designer + BFF Specialist *At Scotiabank, we value the unique skills and experiences each person brings to the bank and are committed to creating and maintaining an inclusive and accessible environment for all.
