**Responsibilities:** * **Preparation:** Study technical drawings, select tools, cut, bend, and prepare materials. * **Welding:** Apply welding techniques (TIG, MIG, arc) to join metallic components, controlling variables such as heat and amperage to prevent deformation. * **Finishing:** Use grinders to smooth surfaces, polish, and add final details to welds. * **Inspection and Quality Control:** Conduct visual inspections and tests (ultrasonic, liquid penetrant) to ensure welds meet standards. * **Safety:** Adhere to safety protocols, wear personal protective equipment (PPE), and maintain a clean and safe work area. * **Maintenance:** Perform basic maintenance on equipment and tools. **Requirements:** * Valid DC-3 license **Academic Qualifications:** **Certification Process (e.g., AWS):** * **Training:** Preparation at a Training Center (ATF). * **Practical Exam:** Perform a welding performance test to demonstrate skill. * **Theoretical Exam:** Demonstrate knowledge of codes, procedures (WPS), and standards. * **Application:** Submit application and required documentation (identification, academic records). **Recognized Certifications:** * **AWS (American Welding Society):** Certified Welder (CW). * **IIW/EWF (International Institute of Welding/European Welding Federation):** International Welder. * **Local Agencies:** Such as COMIMSA in Mexico. * Minimum: High school diploma or equivalent (GED). * Recommended: Technical or vocational welding courses, with specialization. * **Practical Experience:** * Apprenticeship programs, technical schools, or on-the-job training. * Years of experience vary depending on certification level (e.g., 2+ years for CWI, per Arc-Tech Welding). * **Specific Knowledge:** * Welding processes (SMAW, GMAW, etc.), materials, equipment, and shielding gases. * Materials technology and joint design. * **Safety (PPE and Handling):** * Proficiency in use of personal protective equipment (PPE) and safe handling of hazardous materials.
