Job Summary: Design, develop, and implement automation solutions to optimize manufacturing processes for connectors and harnesses, ensuring safety, repeatability, and traceability. Key Highlights: 1. Lead automation projects in connector and harness manufacturing 2. Apply advanced mechanical design and control in automated systems 3. Promote continuous improvement and compliance with quality standards About ITT: ITT is a leading manufacturer of critical components for harsh environments that serves fast\-growing end markets in flow, aerospace and defense, energy and transportation. Building on our heritage of innovation, we partner with our customers to deliver solutions to the key industries that underpin our modern way of life. Headquartered in Stamford, CT, we have more than 11,700 employees globally with operations in \~40 countries and sales in more than 125\. At our core is our engineering DNA, with 1,280\+ engineers, 1,700\+ active global patents and \~51 manufacturing locations. Our businesses are organized in three distinct segments, each based around our core engineering DNA: **Industrial Process:** A global leader in centrifugal and twin\-screw pumps and engineered valves for chemical, energy, mining, and industrial applications. Our leading brands include the iconic **Goulds Pumps** (with more than 175 years of history), **Bornemann, Habonim, Engineered Valves, Rheinhütte Pumpen** and **Svanehøj.** **Motion Technologies:** A global leader in brake pads (ICE and electrified brake pads) and shock absorbers (energy absorption solutions) for transportation applications. Our leading brands include **Friction Technologies, KONI** and **Axtone.** **Connect and Control Technologies:** A leader in critical applications for the aerospace, defense and industrial markets, including harsh environment connectors and control components. Our leading brands include **ITT Cannon, Enidine, Aerospace Controls** and **kSARIA.** Position Summary: Design, develop, and implement automation solutions that optimize connector and harness manufacturing processes, ensuring safety, repeatability, dimensional accuracy, and traceability in assembly and test operations. Reporting to the Engineering Manager, the Automation Engineer will be responsible for all automation activities within the plant. The candidate will be a key member of Project Management teams, especially for larger-scale projects, ensuring adherence to ITT’s automation standards and providing leadership during execution—both to employees and contractors. Key Responsibilities: * **Mechanical Design** * Develop 3D models and 2D drawings of automated equipment, robotic cells, and precision mechanisms (SolidWorks and/or Creo Parametric). * Design assembly stations, manipulators, and transport systems for connectors and electrical subassemblies. * Evaluate materials, tolerances, and manufacturing methods aligned with industry requirements. * **Automation and Control** * Collaborate with PLC programmers, electrical engineers, and electrical test engineers on integration of automated systems. * Define functional requirements and technical specifications for sensors, actuators, pneumatic systems, servo motors, vision cameras, etc. * Ensure compatibility between mechanical components and control systems. * **Project Management (Desired)** * Lead technical development of projects against defined schedules (phases: design, fabrication, integration, validation & release). * Participate in design reviews and change management (ECR/ECO). * Prepare technical documentation, bills of materials (BOM), and maintenance manuals. * **Validation and Continuous Improvement** * Execute mechanical and functional validation tests (repeatability, accuracy, cycle times). * Propose design and process improvements to reduce costs, integration time, and maintenance effort. * Implement design practices based on DFM (Design for Manufacturability and Assembly), Lean Manufacturing, and Six Sigma. * **Standards Compliance (Desired)** * Ensure designs comply with safety and quality standards (AS9100, IPC/WHMA\-A\-620, OSHA). * Coordinate reviews with quality and manufacturing engineering to ensure design robustness. Job Requirements: **EDUCATION:** Mechanical Engineering, Mechatronics, Electromechanical Engineering or related field. **EXPERIENCE:** * Minimum 5 years of verifiable experience in mechanical design of medium- to high-complexity machinery or automated equipment. * Experience in the aerospace or precision automotive industries, particularly with connectors, cables, or harnesses. * Experience in robot integration projects, artificial vision, servo drives, pneumatics, and advanced sensing technologies. **Technical Knowledge:** * Proficiency in 3D CAD (SolidWorks, Creo Parametric) and technical documentation generation (drawings, GD\&T tolerancing). * Knowledge of stress analysis (FEA) and engineering materials for applications. * Familiarity with PLC, HMI, etc., and communication with multidisciplinary teams. * Proficiency with Lean tools, AMEF/FMEA, DOE, and statistical process control. * Ability to interpret and develop pneumatic and hydraulic schematics. **Skills:** * Analytical thinking and problem-solving orientation. * Strong results orientation and commitment to deadlines. * Ability to work effectively in multidisciplinary teams (mechanical, control, electrical, software). * Effective technical communication in English and Spanish. **LANGUAGES:** * Advanced technical English (ability to write and communicate technically with international suppliers).
