(Please apply only if residing in Tijuana/Tecate/Rosarito) * Department: Quality / Manufacturing A metal-mechanical company seeks a Senior Quality Engineer with extensive experience in structural steel assembly, fabrication, and welding for construction projects. The position will be responsible for ensuring compliance with quality standards, applicable codes, material traceability, process inspections, and continuous improvement in shop and/or field operations. Specialist in quality control of metal structures (beams, columns, frames, connections), compliance with structural and welding codes, and assurance of mechanical integrity. Strong focus on regulatory compliance, traceability, and continuous improvement. **Main Responsibilities** * Implement and maintain the quality management system per construction standards * Ensure compliance with regulations, customer specifications, structural codes, and applicable quality requirements. * Control assembly and welding processes (MIG, FCAW, SMAW) for construction structures * Validate and approve WPS/PQR and welder qualification (WPQ) * Manage dimensional and welding inspections in shop and field * Coordinate non-destructive testing (UT, RT, MT, PT) per applicable codes * Ensure material traceability (heat numbers, mill certificates) * Lead customer audits, AISC certifications, and regulatory audits * Implement corrective/preventive actions and continuous improvement * Audit quality reports * Train quality inspectors * Serve as quality alert administrator Experience and Requirements Key Skills * Interpretation of structural drawings and AWS symbols * Knowledge of IBC code. * Distortion control and tolerances in structures * Root cause analysis (8D, 5 Why’s, Ishikawa) * SPC and statistical analysis * Technical leadership and ability to coordinate work teams. Education and Certifications * Mechanical, Industrial, Civil, or Metallurgical Engineering, or related field * Desired certifications: o CWI (Certified Welding Inspector) – AWS o Knowledge of ISO 9001 o Six Sigma (Green/Black Belt) o GMP knowledge. o Experience in customer audits or certifications related to structural steel.
