Crisis Group is launching a new program on Global Issues and Institutions. The program will include *(i)* a project on global order and peacemaking; *(ii)* Crisis Group’s eEarth project monitoring resources and generating data\-driven early warning; *(iii)* research and advocacy work relating to the UN and other international institutions; *(iv)* early warning and research; and *(v)* gender and conflict. The five streams of work will be independent but Crisis Group aims to find opportunities for cross\-cutting initiatives involving different parts of the program. The program will also work with Crisis Group’s programs to develop joint initiatives and publications. In establishing this program, Crisis Group is looking for a Senior Analyst to work on the global order and peacemaking project. The goal of the project is to identify and analyze trends in deadly violence, map new approaches to peacemaking, and address how shifts in the global order are affecting conflict prevention and resolution. While the scope of the work is global, it will be informed by – and help inform – Crisis Group’s country\-based and regional analyses. Our goal is to connect our observations of particular conflicts to geopolitical trends, while also looking at how to craft recommendations for averting or ending conflicts that reflect today’s power politics. The Senior Analyst will work closely with the Program Director to develop this strand of work, *(i)* engaging directly on specific pieces of research; and *(ii)* coordinating and collaborating with other Crisis Group staff to develop other pieces of research; and *(iii)* undertaking related advocacy and administrative tasks. The successful candidate will need to be able to work independently across an organization with centers and staff around the world, connecting ideas from all parts of ICG. **Location:** The position can be located in any country where Crisis Group has a registration, including Kenya, South Africa, Turkey, Colombia, Canada, US, UK, Belgium or Mexico. The successful candidate will also need to spend some time in Crisis Group’s hubs (Brussels, Nairobi, etc.) and will have to travel for Crisis Group internal meetings and public events. The candidate will need to undertake virtual consultations with Crisis Groups around the world, sometimes outside normal working hours. **Responsibilities:** * In collaboration with the Program Director, develop a strategy for the new project; * Liaise with other Crisis Group programs to develop ideas for joint initiatives and products; * Liaise with other parts of the Global Issues and Institutions program on cross\-cutting work; * Research and draft individual Crisis Group products (reports, briefings, etc.); * Under the supervision of the Program Director, do initial edits of colleagues’ inputs and work them to improve their drafts; * Liaise with Crisis Group’s development staff on project proposals, funding opportunities, and donor reporting; * Liaise with Crisis Group’s communications staff on raising the profile of the project; * Author external pieces and support senior Crisis Group staff drafting pieces relating to the project; * Oversee convenings related to the project, in coordination with other Crisis Group staff; * Liaise with Crisis Group’s advocacy staff on policy opportunities and recommendations; * Conduct meetings with outside actors (diplomats, etc.) and participate in public events related to the project work. **Requirements:** * A Master’s Degree or equivalent, probably in a field relating to the project focus (although Crisis Group recognizes that a wide range of disciplines may be relevant). * 7\-10 years of experience in international policy research (academic, corporate or policy\-oriented), a foreign ministry/international organization, journalism, or a related field. * Strong English drafting and editing skills. Working knowledge of another language commonly used in international forums is preferred. Crisis Group will request examples of a candidate’s past work that demonstrates these skills and a written test will be part of the selection process with shortlisted candidates. * A previous focus on conflict issues is strongly preferred, although not necessarily essential. Professional experience in a conflict setting will help candidates engage with Crisis Group. * Under any circumstances, the successful candidate will demonstrate an ability to engage thoughtfully with country and regionally\-based conflict analysis in developing their work. * A proven ability to think creatively about linking developments in different countries and regions to identify emerging global trends. * A proven ability to work collegially with a complex team across multiple timezones. * Experience in crafting project proposals and liaising with donors is strongly preferred. * Experience with quantitative approaches to research/analysis is preferred, but not essential. * Experience of media writing and other media engagement is preferred, but not essential. * Experience of advocacy with decision\-makers and officials is preferred, but not essential. * Experience of organizing events with high\-level participants will be useful. **If interested, please submit your application by 10 December 2025\.** *Note: Generative AI may not be used to generate your cover letter.*
