MSF’s work was recognized with the Nobel Peace Prize in 1999. **POSITION OBJECTIVE** To provide outpatient and inpatient medical care to patients/beneficiaries in accordance with adapted and up-to-date medical knowledge, MSF protocols, and universal hygiene standards, thereby improving patients’ and beneficiaries’ health conditions. **RESPONSIBILITIES AND FUNCTIONS** * Apply medical knowledge and skills for diagnosis and prevention. Conduct outpatient consultations and prescribe necessary treatment in accordance with MSF protocols. * Keep patients and their families informed about the illness and provide appropriate explanations regarding the treatment plan, verifying their understanding. * Monitor patient progress, consultations and examinations. Prescribe necessary treatment following MSF protocols. * Participate in the collection and analysis of epidemiological data, verifying data validity and reporting any patient illness complications or medical errors to the field supervisor or coordinator. Ensure proper functioning of the department, equipment or materials. * Know and ensure implementation of all MSF medical protocols, verifying that universal precautions are consistently followed to reduce biological hazard risks and improve infection control. * Ensure quality and disinfection of medical equipment. * Know and implement the cold chain protocol for proper maintenance of vaccines and medications requiring specific temperature control. * **Guarantees medical care for patients.** * Participates in identification of cases of sexual violence (SV) and is responsible for comprehensive care and follow-up in accordance with the MSF protocol. * Participates in emergency medical response to acts of violence. * Ensures issuance of medical certificates for cases of violence and confidential filing of such certificates. * Refers patients requiring referral to pre-established institutions or stakeholders, with corresponding medical counterpart. * Ensures access to curative programs for epidemic diseases (TB, STIs/HIV, malaria, dengue, etc.). * Applies hygiene standards to all medical activities. * **Participates in awareness-raising activities** * Collaborates in the development and implementation of health education (awareness-raising) sessions for the population and/or local health structures, according to the project-defined strategy. * Participates in training of counterparts’ staff and volunteers, as required by the project. * **Confidentiality and teamwork:** * Ensures confidentiality of all medical information (and non-medical information requiring confidentiality) accessed due to work performed within the team. * Collaborates jointly with the interdisciplinary team in referring patients to different institutions based on pre-established criteria and MSF protocols. * Uses CELO as a mechanism to share sensitive patient information. * **Representation, communication, and meetings** * Contributes to monitoring the health situation for appropriate project orientation. * **Team organization and management** * Organizes and collaborates with other internal (social work, psychology, logistics) and external MSF areas. * **Monitoring, analysis and reporting** * Responsible for monthly collection of medical data (HIS OPD/IPD and HIS VSBG). * Monitors and reports on pathology types, abnormal increases in consultation numbers, and potential epidemics. * **Pharmacy** * Conducts weekly stock monitoring using the designated tool. * Verifies and controls, under personal responsibility, rational distribution of medicines. * Ensures continuous (weekly) monitoring of pharmacy stocks at project intervention sites; analyzes consumption patterns, draws conclusions regarding rational prescribing, and manages required medicine orders. * **Security** * Adheres to MSF security rules. * Immediately reports protection-related situations upon identification. * **Others** * Participates in emergency activities or exploratory visits in MSF’s area of operation upon request. **PROFILE** **REQUIREMENTS** **ESSENTIAL** Education and Training * Medical degree and valid professional license in Mexico. Tropical medicine diploma desirable. Experience * Experience with MSF and other NGOs in developing countries is desirable. Experience in tropical medicine or post-registration experience in public health, obstetrics and gynecology, pediatrics, internal medicine, infectious diseases, HIV/STIs, TB, general medicine or minor surgery.
