Job Summary: We are seeking a Senior Architect to lead the migration of virtual machines from VMware to OpenShift Virtualization, diagnosing and resolving failures. Key Highlights: 1. Solid experience with vCenter / ESXi and its complexities. **Devhive is looking for a VMware to OpenShift Virtualization Migration Architect in Miguel Hidalgo, Ciudad de México** ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ **Consultant / Senior Architect for VMware to OpenShift Virtualization (MTV / KubeVirt) Hourly Project** **Employment Type** ------------------------ * **Engagement Model:** Freelance / Project-based * **Work Mode:** Remote (preferred) \+ occasional on-site sessions if required * **Rate:** **Hourly, negotiable** based on seniority and certifications **Role Objective** -------------------- Unblock and execute the **migration of virtual machines from VMware (vCenter/ESXi) to Red Hat OpenShift Virtualization (CNV/KubeVirt)**, using **Migration Toolkit for Virtualization (MTV)** as the primary path, and defining **workarounds** for unsupported VMs or special cases. **Responsibilities (What the Specialist Will Do)** --------------------------------------------------- ### **1\) Diagnosis and Root Cause Analysis** * Review the current status of the OpenShift \+ OpenShift Virtualization cluster. * Confirm versions and compatibility among **OCP / CNV / MTV / VMware**. * Identify the exact point of failure (provider, permissions, certificates, network mapping, storage mapping, conversion, transfer, boot). * Propose a correction plan (quick wins \+ structural changes). ### **2\) MTV Implementation / Configuration** * Install or adjust **MTV** (operator/namespace/config). * Configure **Providers** (vCenter/ESXi) with appropriate roles and permissions. * Define and configure: + **NetworkMap** (source networks to destination networks) + **StorageMap** (source datastores to destination StorageClass) * Execute pilot migration (cold/warm), followed by wave-based migrations. ### **3\) VM Conversion and Compatibility** * Evaluate and classify VMs: + Migratable via MTV, + Migratable with adjustments (snapshots, drivers, UEFI/BIOS), + Not migratable via MTV (RDM, independent disks, etc.). * Apply typical fixes: + Removal of snapshots, + Firmware changes (BIOS/UEFI) where applicable, + Driver and boot configuration adjustments, + Cleanup of VMware Tools / drivers. * Define an **alternative migration strategy** when MTV does not apply (e.g., OVF/OVA export, virt\-v2v outside the cluster, etc.). ### **4\) Post-Migration Validation** * Validate boot, networking, disk, and basic performance. * Acceptance checklist per VM / per wave. * Handover with runbook and best practices. ### **5\) Documentation** * **Runbook** with step-by-step instructions for: + Configuring MTV, + Executing migrations, + Troubleshooting common error types. * Matrix of migratable vs. non-migratable VMs with clear criteria. * Production recommendations. **Technical Requirements (Must Have)** ----------------------------------- ### **OpenShift / Virtualization** * 3\+ years with **OpenShift 4\.x** (administration, operators, troubleshooting). * Real-world experience with **OpenShift Virtualization / CNV / KubeVirt**: + Creation and operation of VMs, + PVC/DataVolumes, + Dedicated nodes for VMs (taints/tolerations) where applicable. ### **VMware to OCP Virtualization Migration** * Proven experience with **Migration Toolkit for Virtualization (MTV)**: + Providers, NetworkMap, StorageMap, Plans, Migrations. + Analysis and resolution of common migration failures. ### **VMware** * Solid experience with **vCenter / ESXi**: + Datastores, networking, roles/permissions, snapshots, templates. + Knowledge of unsupported scenarios (RDM, independent disks, etc.). ### **Storage \+ Networking (Minimum Required to Avoid Blockers)** * Understanding of storage concepts in OCP: + StorageClass, PV/PVC, block vs. filesystem mode, RWO/RWX. * Experience integrating enterprise storage (ideally Dell Unity / PowerStore / NetApp / Pure). * Troubleshooting connectivity: DNS/NTP, ports, TLS certificates, MTU. ### **Troubleshooting / Observability** * Proficiency in: + oc describe, oc logs, oc get events + Reading operator logs (MTV/CNV) + Analyzing failures in transfer/conversion/boot. **Desirable (Nice to Have)** --------------------------- * Certifications: + Red Hat (RHCE, OpenShift Admin/Specialist) + VMware (VCP) * Experience with **Dell EMC Unity XT \+ CSI** (if Unity is the target storage). * Experience migrating large environments (50\+ VMs) in waves with defined windows and rollback capability. * Familiarity with conversion tools such as **virt\-v2v**. **Preferred Education Level:** Bachelor's degree or higher **Preferred Experience Level:** Expert level **Departmental Function:** Technology / Internet **Industry:** Information Services **Skills:** * REDHAT * VMWARE * VIRTUALIZATION *This job posting originates from the Talenteca.com job board:* *https://www.talenteca.com/anuncio?j\_id\=69a049ad39000034007eb30d\&source\=indeed*
