Focus on preventing errors, rework, and compliance issues Description and details of responsibilities The Supplier quality/development engineer is a key player at MDI, responsible for ensuring the technical accuracy and compliance of purchased components and materials used in our modular products. This role acts as a vital bridge between Engineering and Procurement teams, validating Bills of Materials (BOMs), confirming correct part usage against CAD designs (Onshape), supporting supplier technical development, and translating technical requirements into clear, actionable specifications for the purchasing team. This position is crucial in preventing errors, rework, and compliance issues in sourcing and manufacturing. **Key Responsibilities:** * **BOM & Product Data Validation:** * Review and validate purchased item descriptions in Bills of Materials (BOMs) to ensure completeness, standardization, and technical accuracy. * Verify parts and materials against CAD models/assemblies in Onshape, resolving discrepancies between designs and purchasing documentation. * Maintain high-quality part master data, including descriptions, specifications, revisions, and alternates. * **Supplier Technical Development:** * Support supplier qualification by validating products against technical, quality, safety, and regulatory standards. * Review datasheets, certifications, and other technical supplier documents. * Collaborate with Quality and Procurement teams on new part introductions. * Participate in evaluations, First Article Inspections (FAI), and sample reviews. * **Engineering-Procurement Bridge:** * Translate engineering needs into practical specifications for buyers. * Clarify requirements during Requests for Quotation (RFQs), approve alternatives, and provide guidance on part issues (fit, form, function, compliance). * **Cross-Functional Support:** * Collaborate closely with Engineering, Operations, Quality, and Procurement to prevent errors. * Validate BOM updates and engineering change management. * Develop standards for part descriptions and documentation. Experience and requirements **Required Qualifications:** **Education:** * Bachelor's degree in Engineering (Mechanical, Industrial, Manufacturing, Civil, or similar). **Experience:** * Minimum 5 years of experience in product engineering, manufacturing engineering, or technical sourcing. * Demonstrated experience in reviewing BOMs and technical drawings. * Familiarity with supplier technical documentation and compliance requirements. * Experience supporting sourcing, RFQs, or supplier relationships. * Understanding of CAD systems (Onshape or similar preferred). * Experience working with ERP/MRP systems. **Skills and Competencies:** * **Analysis and Problem-Solving:** Strong analytical skills, including FMEA/DFM, failure corrections, prototype validation, and process improvements. * **Management & Follow-up:** Ability to perform supply chain follow-ups, REV drawing updates, and WIP (Work In Progress) tracking. * **Teamwork:** Results-driven with a strong capacity for cross-functional teamwork (engineering, procurement, construction, leadership). * **Quality & Compliance Focus:** Strong emphasis on quality and compliance, especially in fast-growth environments. * **Organization:** Exceptional organizational skills for integrating production insights into product design BOMs. * **Communication:** Ability to communicate effectively in English (written and verbal).
