### **Job Objective:** To perform diagnosis, corrective and preventive maintenance on fifth wheel systems, suspension, air brakes, and axles in trailers and semi-trailers, ensuring all units operate to the highest standards of safety and reliability. ### **Key Responsibilities and Duties:** * **Diagnosis and Repair:** Identify and resolve malfunctions in fifth wheel systems (plate, jaw, locking mechanism), suspension systems (spring, air), axles, air brakes, and related components. * **Preventive Maintenance:** Carry out scheduled inspections and services according to manufacturer manuals and company protocols. * **Adjustment and Alignment:** Adjust height and coupling of the tractor’s fifth wheel. Inspect and correct axle alignment on the semi-trailer. * **Safety Inspection:** Conduct detailed pre\-trip and post\-trip inspections, documenting the condition of critical components. * **Parts Management:** Request necessary spare parts and materials, maintaining efficient inventory control. * **Documentation:** Record all maintenance activities, repairs, and findings in the fleet management system. * **Regulatory Compliance:** Ensure all repairs meet current safety and transportation regulations. * **Teamwork:** Collaborate with other shop personnel to optimize turnaround times and ensure service quality. ### **Requirements and Experience:** * **Education:** Technical degree in Automotive Mechanics, Diesel Mechanics, or related field (desirable). * **Experience:** Minimum of **2 years** in a similar role as a trailer, semi-trailer, or heavy-duty vehicle mechanic, with **proven expertise in fifth wheel and suspension systems**. * **Essential Technical Knowledge:** * In-depth knowledge of fifth wheel coupling systems (Holland, Fontaine, etc. models). * Experience with suspension systems (steel springs, air bags). * Knowledge of air brake systems, chambers, and valves. * Ability to read and interpret technical manuals and diagrams. * **Skills:** * Strong diagnostic and problem-solving abilities. * Safety-conscious with attention to detail. * Team-oriented and able to work under pressure. * Responsible and committed.
