In detail, a waiter performs the following tasks (among others):
Before customer arrival:
* **Service Area Preparation:**
Waiters arrange tables, set tablecloths, cutlery, glasses, and other necessary items. They also ensure the service area is clean and tidy.
* **Menu Knowledge:**
It is important for waiters to be thoroughly familiar with the menu—including ingredients, preparation methods, and potential allergens—to answer questions and offer recommendations to customers.
During customer service:
* **Greeting and Welcoming:**
Waiters greet customers warmly and escort them to their tables, present the menu, and offer suggestions.
* **Order Taking:**
Waiters take food and beverage orders, ensuring accurate recording of customer preferences and any special requests.
* **Food and Beverage Service:**
Waiters deliver dishes and drinks to tables, ensuring each customer receives their correct order.
* **Personalized Service:**
Waiters remain attentive to customers’ needs throughout the meal—offering drink refills, clearing used dishes, and accommodating special requests.
* **Handling Complaints and Suggestions:**
Waiters must be prepared to professionally address any customer complaints or feedback and seek satisfactory resolutions.
* **Payment Management:**
Waiters prepare the bill, present it to the customer, and process payment—whether cash or card.
After customer departure:
* **Cleaning and Organization:**
Waiters remove dirty dishes and utensils, clean tables, and prepare the area for new customers.
* **Order Verification:**
Waiters must ensure all orders have been correctly fulfilled and all services billed.
