Position Summary: Project Engineer II - Protection leads the development and design of conventional and integrated PCYM systems for Transmission and Generation, and supports customers. Key Highlights: 1. Leads the design and development of PCYM systems for Transmission and Generation. 2. Supports customers in system configuration, validation, and commissioning. 3. Acts as a mentor and develops professional staff. Project Engineer II \- Protection Requirements * Electrical or Electronics Engineering with specialization in Power System Protection and Control * Knowledge of Power Systems * Advanced concepts of Power Systems * Design of PCYM systems for distribution (feeders, capacitor banks, transformers, and relays associated with the application) * Design of PCYM systems for subtransmission (lines and transformers, and relays associated with the application) * Design of Integrated Systems * Design of Bus Protection Systems * Design of Industrial System Protection Systems * Federal Electricity Commission (CFE) specifications for development of conventional and integrated PCYM systems * Design of PCYM systems for Generation and associated relays * Lead and design the development and design of conventional and integrated PCYM systems for Transmission and Generation * Develop digital relay settings **Essential Functions and Responsibilities** -------------------------------------------- Possesses, understands, and applies knowledge and experience in the Power Systems focus area\* and related SEL products to complete complex assignments. Leads customer training and support in creation, design, configuration, validation, installation, commissioning, and operation of automation and/or protection systems. Leads assignment, execution, and implementation of work within agreed scope, schedule, and budget, with high quality and safety standards. Supports identification, preparation, and presentation of successful proposals for SEL equipment, services, and systems. Acts as a mentor and develops professional staff. May supervise when required. Models, teaches, and applies SEL Values, Operating Principles, and World-Class Manufacturing Principles. Understand. Create. Simplify. Other duties as assigned. **Required Qualifications** ----------------------------- * Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or related discipline. * More than 5 years of relevant experience in power system applications, industry practices, and practices and philosophies of the focus area\*. * Demonstrated knowledge of power system protection and control, integration and/or automation, and communications applications. * Proven knowledge in power system design, studies, information and communication technologies, and protective relay applications. * Willingness to travel domestically and internationally at least 25%, depending on focus area. * Strong written documentation and oral communication skills. * Ability to learn new skills and assume new responsibilities. * Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment. * Satisfactory results in background verification required by SEL. * Negative result in drug testing. **Preferred Qualifications** ----------------------------- * Professional Engineer (PE) license or equivalent certification. * Experience in electric utilities, industrial plants, consulting engineering, or system integration. * Project management experience. * Practical knowledge of Vision or other project management tracking software. **Focus Areas** -------------------- *Protection, Automation, Design, Studies, Commissioning, Security, Networks, and Project Management* * **Automation:** software, integration and automation, industrial controls, PLCs, industrial protocols (IEC\-61850, DNP, Modbus), Ethernet systems, protocol analyzers, and industry SCADA practices. * **Business Development:** identifies, negotiates, and manages strategic business relationships. Develops opportunities and prospects. Collaborates with engineering teams to create competitive proposals and secure purchase orders. Develops customer- and strategically focused sales. * **Civil:** civil design and engineering theory, principles and applications; structural design and constructability of electrical substations, including equipment, grading, drainage, and applicable foundation types. * **Commissioning:** performs on-site commissioning and acceptance testing activities; trains and assists customers in equipment installation, commissioning, and operation. Up to 80% travel. * **Design:** analyzes technical specifications; creates detailed physical and electrical designs, bills of materials, and cost estimates. * **Networks:** experience in industrial control system networks, including provisioning, design, testing, and implementation of wide-area and local-area networks (WAN/LAN). * **Project Manager:** comprehensive lifecycle management of multiple large, multidisciplinary projects from proposal through commissioning and closeout. Effectively tracks projects, implements solutions to obstacles, and anticipates customer needs. * **Proposals:** reviews customer requests for quotation (RFQ) for technical specifications and scope. Evaluates bid/no-bid decisions, develops scopes of work, preliminary designs, responsibility matrices, risk assessments, cash flow projections, and preliminary schedules. Develops strong knowledge of SEL’s full ES portfolio and uses it to create integrated solutions. Collaborates with contracts to finalize terms and conditions. * **Protection:** power system protection, protective relays and their applications, settings, and testing. * **Security:** experience in industrial control system security, including technical controls, security assessments, policies, plans, and procedures. Practical knowledge of NERC/CIP compliance and/or NIST SP 800\ security requirements. * **Studies:** demonstrated experience using PSSE, ETAP and/or RTDS. Strong knowledge of power systems. None
