The Role We’re looking for a Senior Data Engineer to help lead the evolution of our data stack—from pipelines to platform. In this role, you’ll build the infrastructure that powers everything from product intelligence to financial reporting and self\-serve analytics within the product. Our customers are clinical professionals in small- and medium-sized private practices, and the data you structure will directly help them operate more efficient and effective businesses. By enabling accessible insights—such as no\-show trends or patient engagement levels—you’ll give professionals tools to make smarter, faster decisions about care management. Internally, your work will drive executive reporting and revenue forecasting, product analytics, and AI model evaluation cycles. You’ll collaborate with Data Analytics, Machine Learning, Product, and Engineering teams to build scalable, reliable systems that turn data into a first\-class product within SimplePractice. Responsibilities Collaborate with Product, Analytics, and Engineering to build scalable systems that unlock the value of data from multiple sources—including backend databases, event streams, and marketing platforms. Lead technical vision and architecture with both short- and long-term holistic perspectives. Work with the Analytics team to create company-wide alignment through standardized metrics. Support internal use cases such as financial reporting, product analytics, and operational metrics. Enable external use cases such as customer dashboards, self\-serve analytics, and in\-product recommendations. Manage the full data stack—from ingestion to consumption. Build tools that increase transparency in business outcome reporting. Collaborate with DevOps to deploy and maintain cloud-based data solutions, preferably on AWS. Define data quality and security frameworks to measure and monitor quality across the organization, promoting best practices in data engineering. Skills and Desired Experience Education and Experience Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Engineering, Computer Science, Mathematics, or a related field. 7+ years in Data Engineering or Analytics Engineering. Strong problem\-solving and communication skills; comfortable working in dynamic, cross\-functional environments. Data Engineering and Pipelines Experience in enterprise architecture and dimensional modeling. Expertise in SQL and data modeling (relational, dimensional, semantic). Proven experience designing, implementing, and maintaining data warehouses (Snowflake). Hands\-on experience with DBT for modular, testable transformations. Experience with orchestration and ingestion tools: Airflow, Prefect, Airbyte, Fivetran, Kafka. Familiarity with ELT, schema\-on\-read, DAGs, and performance optimization. Cloud and Infrastructure Experience with AWS (S3, RDS, Redshift, etc.). Familiarity with Terraform, Docker, and containerized workflows (desirable). Proficiency handling structured, semi\-structured (JSON), and columnar formats (Parquet, ORC). Analytics and Enablement Experience building and supporting semantic layers for self\-serve analytics. Proficiency with BI tools such as Looker, Tableau, or Sisense. Experience standardizing metrics and enabling reliable, consistent data access. Programming and Scripting Proficiency in Python and Unix/Linux scripting. Experience working with APIs (e.g., using curl). Bonus Points AWS DevOps (Terraform, Kubernetes, Docker). Experience in project and change management, especially in agile environments (SCRUM, Kanban). Experience in real\-time ETL (Kafka streaming, AWS Kinesis).
