The Role SimplePractice is hiring an experienced Senior Software Engineer to join our team in a hybrid role. The ideal candidate will have expert-level knowledge of Ruby on Rails and extensive backend development experience. This role will be instrumental in implementing a wide range of planned features and service improvements to support our growing platform. As one of the first hires in our new Mexico City location, you’ll play a pivotal role in building a team of developers passionate about what they do. We are hiring hybrid workers in Mexico City. About You You’re a passionate and talented engineer who’s willing to push existing technology to its limits to create the best possible user experience. You work on the frontend with a stronger emphasis on the backend to develop new features end-to-end—including architecture design, coding, and testing. You love good design and apply that sensibility to your frontend work. You love building products that help over 200,000 customers in their daily lives. Responsibilities Build the next generation of the practice management platform. Work with our engineering leadership and talent team to grow our new Mexico City office. Collaborate with our product team to understand customer needs, resolve potential issues, and define future features. Write clean, efficient, and well-tested code that meaningfully improves our codebase. Help diagnose problems and design solutions. Desired Skills & Experience You have 4–6 years of engineering experience, with hands-on Ruby on Rails expertise. You are proficient in English, with strong communication and collaboration skills. You hold a degree in Computer Science or a related technical field. You have solid experience with at least one modern JavaScript framework—specifically Ember.js or React.js—and the ecosystem surrounding those frameworks. You’ve designed and implemented large, scalable web applications and appreciate clean, elegant, and simple code. You have experience taking Rails applications from idea to production. You understand the value and nuances of test-driven development (TDD). You’re comfortable working with remote teams using GitHub, Slack, Notion, and Zoom for collaboration. Bonus Points You’re excited to take on a leadership role to help scale a new developer office. You have a strong understanding of web application security and best practices. Practical experience managing environments using Docker, MySQL, Postgres, Redis, NGINX, and various AWS services. Confidence working in production environments to help troubleshoot issues. Experience with Linux. Infrastructure management via Terraform/Ansible. Experience with PCI/HIPAA compliance standards.
