




**General Objective:** Collect samples from inpatients and outpatients, and process biological samples using automated, semi-automated, and manual equipment as applicable, applying knowledge of calibration and quality control, and ensuring proper use of instruments and reagents throughout the analytical process. **Job Responsibilities:** The Clinical Chemist is responsible for: * • Ensuring phlebotomy procedures are performed in accordance with laboratory best practices * • Operating the hospital’s and laboratory’s information systems * • Ensuring optimal equipment performance and test execution * • Validating and reporting results * • Notifying critical values * • Participating in the quality management system * • Using laboratory reagents and materials appropriately * • Participating in the laboratory’s training program * • Supervising technical staff * • Performing cross-matching tests according to blood bank guidelines * • Collecting samples while ensuring sample quality—from patient preparation, collection, conditioning, to delivery to the technical area * • Confirming that test orders are entered correctly into the system, matching those requested by the physician or patient, and uploaded into the laboratory information system for processing * • Performing preventive maintenance on instruments, calibrations, and internal and external quality control for all tests conducted * • Reviewing and releasing results promptly, correlating them clinically with other laboratory tests * • Confirming alert values and notifying the attending physician, on-call physician, nursing staff, and/or patient as applicable * • Completing required logs, forms, or procedures in the area to ensure quality assurance * • Conducting inventory as outlined in procedures, submitting material requests to the direct supervisor * • Coordinating activities performed by laboratory technicians within the area, shift, or on-call team—ensuring effective communication and timely, accurate execution of processes and reporting * • Interpreting laboratory results * • Reporting any uncertainties regarding methodology or results to the supervisor or laboratory head * • Reagent shortages: Notify the direct supervisor to follow up with procurement and warehouse departments * • Patient complaints: Address the patient’s request and inform the supervisor or laboratory head to proceed with further actions * • Assisting in providing clinical consultation regarding test selection, service utilization, and interpretation of test results * • If applicable, assisting in selecting contracted laboratories and monitoring the quality of services provided through a supervision process aligned with organizational criteria * • If applicable, when selecting a reference laboratory service, conducting an assessment of its background and technical capability, and requesting a copy of the license issued by a recognized authority, as well as a copy of the accreditation certificate or letter, or certification from a recognized laboratory accreditation or certification program * • Assisting in monitoring turnaround times for laboratory service requests to identify potential areas for improvement * • Assisting in identifying training needs for supervised personnel, ensuring they receive necessary training for proper job performance and continuous professional development **Education:** Bachelor’s Degree / Engineering in: Clinical Microbiologist-Parasitologist, Pharmaceutical-Biological Chemist, Clinical Chemist, Clinical Biochemist **Experience:** Minimum 3 years of professional experience **Schedule:** — **Travel Required:** — **We Offer:** **Hospital:** **MAC León** CONTACT **Email:** laura.alvarado@hospitalesmac.com **Phone:** Apply
