Whether it’s delivering items directly to guests in their rooms or supporting housekeeping, engineering, banquets, restaurants, the front desk, or other areas requiring assistance, runners do whatever is necessary to achieve the goal. They are essential to ensuring the hotel’s success. Regardless of the position you hold, there are several fundamental topics critical to achieving success; for example, creating a safe work environment, following company policies and procedures, respecting confidentiality, protecting company assets, maintaining quality standards, and ensuring that your uniform, personal appearance, and communication skills remain professional at all times. Runners are always on the move; they stand, sit, walk extensively, and perform a wide variety of tasks (they must navigate confined spaces, elevated areas, and climb up and down service stairs and ramps). It is essential to ensure they have everything needed for their job (the ability to read and obtain information from a wide variety of formats, including small print; inspect tools, equipment, or machinery), and to perform hands-on tasks (moving, lifting, carrying, pushing, and placing objects weighing 55 pounds or less without assistance; reaching upward, kneeling, turning, stretching, and bending). It is essential that runners perform their best work and any other reasonable tasks requested of them to ensure guest satisfaction and our business success.
