




Desirable knowledge in: \- Knowledge of Maritime Regulations \- Global Maritime Distress and Safety System (GMDSS) Operator \- Ship Security Officer (SSO) for Officers \- Advanced Oil Tanker Operations for Officers (applies to Tank Vessels) (desirable) \- Updated STCW 95/78, as amended in 2010 \- Proficiency in handling survival craft and rescue boats other than fast rescue boats. \- Advanced fire fighting techniques. \- First aid and medical care \- Refresher workshop for Ship Security Officers (MAAR Course) Functions \- Supervise and coordinate crew activities and deck maintenance. \- Maintain fuel loading and unloading equipment. \- Maintain all deck equipment and some interior ship equipment. \- Assist officers with maintenance and repair of ship machinery and auxiliary equipment. \- Stand watch during navigation and assist officers with routine maintenance and repair of ship machinery and auxiliary equipment. \- Handle mooring lines. \- Maintain and operate ship equipment, cargo gear, wires, lifesaving appliances, and fire extinguishers.
