Purpose of the Role The Procurement and Contracts Superintendent role ensures the supply of third-party materials and services, with a focus on meeting internal customer requirements, reducing costs, improving quality and delivery timelines, through effective negotiation, ultimately guaranteeing the required supplies and services for all departments within the Unit. Key Responsibilities Process unit contracts in compliance with established policies and procedures, always ensuring a transparent bidding process where applicable. Address contract users’ concerns and monitor non-compliance issues to seek corrective action, impose sanctions, or even terminate contracts. Identify suppliers requiring purchase programs or contracts. Negotiate optimal terms and costs with each supplier. Prepare informative reports for Unit Management regarding achieved cost savings or materials at risk of shortage or price increases. Coordinate and direct daily departmental activities. Propose and plan improvements to procurement management when results warrant such changes. Negotiate monthly, semi-annual, and/or annual supplies with suppliers. Conduct supplier bidding processes to secure better delivery timelines and conditions. Follow up on urgent user requests related to material requisitions. Review daily needs, urgencies, and requirements with Unit departments. Continuously review and maintain minimum and maximum material stock levels in the warehouse. Periodically review purchase status. Develop and manage new suppliers to improve costs, delivery timelines, and material quality. Work with current suppliers to improve material quality, pricing, delivery timelines, and service levels. Maintain relevant procurement modules in the information system. Receive material requisitions from various Unit departments. Manage the procurement process. Manage supplier onboarding. Support supplier payment processing. Prepare weekly, monthly, and quarterly reports on key procurement area topics. Ensure strict adherence to Procurement and Contracts policies and procedures. Supervise and manage warehouse operations. Supervise and manage material planning. Requirements Experience 5–7 years of experience in a similar role within the mining industry. Knowledge of logistics, procurement, and contracts. Warehouse knowledge. Effective negotiation skills (mandatory). SAP proficiency. Contract administration. Demonstrable work experience in a quantitatively demanding role. Advanced Microsoft Office suite proficiency. Education Bachelor’s degree in Law, Business Administration, Industrial Engineering, International Trade, or a related field. Special Skills and Knowledge Experience and knowledge of underground mining and mineral processing plant operations. Strong competence and tenacity in implementing and managing procurement strategies and procedures, as well as supplier negotiations and quotations, contracts, pricing, and delivery timelines for high-quality products and services. Entrepreneurial mindset with excellent constructive and interpersonal communication skills, and strong problem-solving abilities. Management of procurement activities, supervision of staff under direct responsibility, and task assignment.
