|FUNCTIONS and PROFILE OF A HOME CAREGIVER Patient with low to moderate complexity 1) Personal care A. Assist the patient with shower or sponge bath B. Skin lubrication C. Assistance with dressing and footwear D. Oral hygiene E. Request cleaning of the patient’s room 2) Feeding 1 A. Verify that the diet prescribed by the nutritionist or treating physician is followed B. Bring the food tray to the patient C. Assist the patient in eating the food 3) Elimination A. Assist the patient in transferring to the toilet or commode chair B. Place bedpan or urinal if required C. Diaper changes if there is no sphincter control D. Manual disimpaction when medically necessary 4) Mobilization A. Assistance with ambulation B. Position changes 5) Activity and rest A. Ensure the patient performs prescribed exercises B. Assist with passive and active exercises C. Respect sleep time 6) Therapeutic applications A. Verify medical instructions B. Apply safety measures C. Work according to international nursing goals and standards D. Implement the four principles of nursing E. Monitor medication intake F. Request that family members provide required medications and supplies G. Properly complete the caregiver’s clinical record H. Communication with patient, family, physician, and company I.
