**Main responsibilities of a diesel mechanic** * **Preventive maintenance** * Check oil, coolant, and hydraulic fluid levels. * Replace filters (oil, fuel, air). * Lubricate moving parts and components. * Verify tire pressure and brake system. * Perform periodic tuning of diesel engines. * **Fault diagnosis** * Identify abnormal noises, vibrations, or leaks. * Use diagnostic scanners or electronic tools. * Test injection system, pump, glow plugs, etc. * Determine the cause of mechanical, electrical, or electronic failures. * **Repair and replacement of parts** * Dismantle and repair diesel engines, transmissions, and differentials. * Replace gaskets, valves, injectors, fuel pumps, turbochargers, etc. * Repair pneumatic or hydraulic brake systems. * Fix leaks in fuel or cooling systems. * **Adjustments and calibrations** * Calibrate injectors, valves, pumps, and fuel systems. * Align and balance axles or suspension systems. * Adjust ignition and injection timing. * **Testing and verification** * Test engine operation after repairs. * Check emission levels and fuel consumption. * Conduct road tests (if applicable). * **Record keeping and reporting** * Maintain logs of completed maintenance work. * Report damaged or pending replacement parts. * Request spare parts or materials from warehouse or shop supervisor. * **Safety and hygiene compliance** * Use personal protective equipment. * Keep the work area clean. * Follow environmental and industrial safety regulations.
