Possession of current professional title and license Current SSPA training certifications **RESPONSIBILITIES:** * Tool Selection: Determine the appropriate type of packer (mechanical, hydraulic, or permanent) and associated accessories based on the engineer's completion design (pressure, temperature, well fluid type, and setting method). * Equipment Inspection: Supervise and thoroughly inspect the packer assembly, elastomeric seals, and slips at surface to ensure the tool is in optimal condition. * Equipment Calculations: Perform precise calculations to determine the correct seal length and tubing joint positions so that the packer is placed exactly at the required depth, avoiding excessive tubing movement. * Safety Protocols: Verify the packer’s maximum pressure rating and handling restrictions to prevent failures during run-in or activation. * Running Production String: Monitor the production tubing string and packer as they are lowered into the wellbore, ensuring no excessive friction or drag issues occur. * Packer Setting: Direct the activation procedure to anchor and seal the packer against the casing wall. * Seal Integrity Testing: After setting, conduct pressure tests (above and below the packer) to verify the annular seal is tight and ensure well integrity. * Special Operations: Support jobs requiring zone isolation, such as acidizing, fracturing, or squeeze cementing, where the packer must withstand high differential pressures. * Unsetting and Retrieval: Direct the process to release the slips and sealing element of the packer and retrieve it from the well, ensuring pressure equalization before release. * Intervention and Repair: Participate in production string reconditioning activities, which often involve replacing or repairing packers damaged by corrosion or high pressures.
