This is an advanced technical position responsible for ensuring the stability, security, and efficiency of the university’s digital infrastructure. Working directly with the IT Manager, the IT Support Engineer is a hands\-on, high\-impact contributor who will help lead CIU into its next phase of technological modernization. This role combines infrastructure management, automation engineering, compliance support, and advanced troubleshooting. The IT Support Engineer plays a central role in building internal systems, optimizing automations, ensuring IT compliance, and serving as a technical escalation point for the department. **Key Responsibilities. Advanced Technical Support \& Infrastructure (Primary Focus)** * Serve as the Level 3 escalation point for complex technical issues, outages, and high\-severity incidents. * Support the administration and optimization of the university’s core technology platforms, including: * Microsoft Azure / Entra ID * Microsoft 365 (Admin, Exchange, SharePoint, OneDrive) * SIS and LMS * Hosting environments * Troubleshoot authentication, identity management, and cloud infrastructure issues. * Maintain system reliability, performance, and backend configurations. * Provide direct operational support to the IT Manager on system\-wide technical projects. **II. Automation, Systems Integration \& Workflow Development** * Develop and maintain automation workflows using tools such as: * Zapier * n8n * Windmill.dev \- not required, but it’s a plus * Google Apps Script * Python (preferred) * Support automation and integration needs across Admissions, Student Success, Registrar, Finance, Academics, and IT. * Reduce manual processes by designing, scalable workflow solutions * Build, test, and document API\-based integrations across university systems. * Maintain monitoring, logging, and failure\-prevention mechanisms for automation reliability. **III. IT Compliance, Best Practices, and Documentation** * Support IT compliance initiatives, including ITIL practices, GLBA, cybersecurity standards, and accreditation requirements (DEAC, ACBSP). * Assist in developing and enforcing technology\-related policies and access governance. * Maintain documentation related to infrastructure, integrations, standard operating procedures, and technical workflows. * Strengthen internal controls and support security audits and operational reviews. **IV. Strategic Support \& Collaboration** * Work hand\-in\-hand with the IT Manager on high\-impact technical initiatives. * Contribute to CIU’s digital transformation roadmap and long\-term infrastructure development. * Provide insights, research, and recommendations on new technologies, tools, and best practices. * Support the creation of internal training resources for IT staff and end\-users. * Collaborate with cross\-departmental stakeholders to ensure seamless operations and high service quality. **QualificationsRequired Education \& Experience** * **Bachelor’s degree** in Computer Science, Information Systems, Engineering, or a computing\-related field. * 2\+ years of experience in IT support, systems engineering, or cloud\-focused technical roles. * Demonstrated experience in: * Azure / Entra ID administration * Microsoft 365 admin center * Automation platforms (Zapier and n8n) * Troubleshooting cloud infrastructure issues * Experience supporting remote teams in a service\-oriented environment. * Strong English communication skills (written and verbal). * Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast\-paced, distributed academic organization. **Preferred Qualifications** * Certifications such as: * AZ\-900, MS\-900, SC\-900 * ITIL Foundations * Any cloud, automation, or cybersecurity certifications * Experience with Python, SQL, REST APIs, or scripting languages. * Experience in higher education settings or supporting LMS/SIS platforms. * Familiarity with data compliance frameworks and best practices for IT governance.
