Description
**General Objective:** Collect samples from inpatients and outpatients, and process biological samples using automated, semi-automated, and manual equipment as applicable, applying knowledge of calibration and quality control, while ensuring proper use of instruments and reagents throughout the analytical process.
**Job Responsibilities:**
* Ensure phlebotomy procedures comply with good laboratory practices.
* Operate the hospital and laboratory information systems.
* Ensure optimal operation of equipment and performance of tests.
* Validate and report results.
* Notify critical values.
* Participate in the quality management system.
* Use laboratory reagents and materials appropriately.
* Participate in the laboratory training program.
* Supervise technical staff.
* Perform cross-matching tests according to blood bank guidelines.
* Collect samples while ensuring sample quality—from patient preparation, collection,
processing, and transport to the technical area.
* Confirm that test orders are entered correctly into the system, matching physician or patient requests,
and are submitted to the laboratory information system for processing.
* Perform preventive maintenance on instruments, calibrations, and internal and external quality control
for all tests performed.
* Review and release results promptly, correlating clinically with other laboratory tests.
* Confirm alert values and notify the attending physician, on-call physician, nursing staff, and/or patient as applicable.
* Complete required logs, forms, or procedures in the area to ensure quality assurance.
* Conduct inventory as described in procedures for requesting materials from the direct supervisor.
* Coordinate activities performed by laboratory technicians in the area, shift, or on-call duty, ensuring effective communication
and timely, appropriate execution of processes and reporting.
* Interpret laboratory results.
* In case of doubts regarding methodology or results, inform the supervisor or laboratory manager.
* Reagent shortages: notify the direct supervisor to follow up with procurement and warehouse.
* Patient complaints: address the patient’s request and inform the supervisor or laboratory manager to continue
appropriate actions.
* Assist in providing clinical consultation regarding test selection, service utilization, and interpretation of test results.
* If applicable, assist in selecting subcontracted laboratories and monitor service quality through supervision
according to organization-defined criteria.
* If applicable, when selecting a reference laboratory service, conduct a review of its background and technical capability,
and request a copy of the license issued by a recognized authority, and a copy of the accreditation certificate or letter,
or certification from a recognized laboratory accreditation or certification program.
* Assist in monitoring turnaround times for laboratory service requests to identify potential areas for improvement.
* Assist in identifying training needs of personnel under supervision, ensuring they receive necessary training
for proper job performance and continuous professional updating.
**Education:** Bachelor’s Degree / Engineering in: Clinical Microbiologist-Parasitologist, Pharmaceutical-Biological Chemist, Clinical Chemist, Clinical Biochemist.
**Experience:** Minimum 3 years of professional experience.
