We seek a Senior Developer possessing a unique blend of skills: the stability of the **Mainframe (COBOL)** world and the agility of modern development with **Python**. Your primary mission will be to maintain and optimize existing critical business processes while leading their transition and coexistence with modern, scalable architectures—preferably in the **AWS** cloud. Key Responsibilities * **Core Maintenance:** Maintain, debug, and optimize complex **COBOL** programs running in mission-critical environments. * **Modernization and Automation:** Develop robust scripts and applications in **Python** for workflow automation, data processing, and support tool creation. * **System Integration:** Design and implement interfaces (APIs) and connectors enabling seamless communication between legacy systems and modern microservices. * **Query Optimization:** Manage and optimize data access in relational databases (DB2, PostgreSQL, or MySQL). * **Cloud Architecture:** Collaborate on migrating batch or transactional processes to **AWS** services. Required Technical Profile 1. COBOL Proficiency * Solid experience developing and maintaining applications in **COBOL** (MVS, z/OS, or similar environments). * Proficiency in **JCL** (Job Control Language) and mainframe utilities. * Experience working with indexed files and hierarchical or relational databases in legacy environments. 2. Python Proficiency * Advanced experience with **Python 3.x** for large-scale data processing or automation. * Use of integration frameworks (e.g., Flask, FastAPI) or data manipulation libraries (e.g., Pandas). 3. AWS Experience (Desirable / Plus) * Knowledge of compute services: **AWS Lambda** (for serverless processing) or **Amazon EC2**. * Experience with storage and database services: **Amazon S3** and **Amazon RDS**. * Familiarity with orchestration tools such as **AWS Step Functions** for hybrid process workflows. Soft Skills * **Analytical Thinking:** Ability to understand complex business logic written years ago and translate it into modern standards. * **Adaptability:** Comfort switching between a mainframe terminal, an AWS console, and a modern IDE. * **Communication:** Ability to explain technical challenges of legacy systems to teams familiar only with modern technologies.
