




**General Objective:** Collect samples from inpatient and outpatient patients, and process biological samples using automated, semi-automated, and manual equipment as applicable, applying knowledge of calibration and quality control, while properly utilizing instruments and reagents for the analysis process. **Job Responsibilities:** The Analytical Chemist is responsible for: * • Ensuring that phlebotomy procedures are performed according to laboratory best practices * • Managing the hospital and laboratory information systems * Ensuring optimal equipment performance and test execution * Validating and reporting results * Notifying critical values * • Participating in the quality management system * • Properly using laboratory reagents and materials * • Participating in the laboratory training program * • Supervising technical staff * • Performing cross-matching tests according to blood bank guidelines. * • Collecting samples, ensuring sample quality from patient preparation, collection, conditioning, and transport to the technical area. * • Confirming that test charges are correctly entered into the system, matching physician or patient requests, and are recorded in the laboratory system for processing. * • Performing preventive instrument maintenance, calibrations, and internal and external quality control for the tests conducted. * • Reviewing and releasing results promptly, performing clinical correlation with other laboratory tests. * • Confirming alert values and notifying the treating physician, on-call physician, nursing staff, and/or patient as applicable. * • Completing logs, forms, or required procedures in the area necessary for quality assurance. * • Conducting inventory as described in procedures for requesting materials from the direct supervisor. * • Coordinating activities carried out by the laboratory technician within the area, shift, or duty, ensuring effective communication and guaranteeing processes and reports are performed properly and timely. * • Interpreting laboratory results. * • In case of doubts regarding methodology or results, informing the supervisor or laboratory manager. * • Reagent shortages: notifying the direct supervisor to follow up with purchasing and warehouse. * • Patient complaints: addressing the patient's request and informing the supervisor or laboratory manager to proceed with actions. * • Assisting in ensuring clinical consultation is provided regarding test selection, service utilization, and interpretation of test results. * If applicable, assisting in selecting subcontracted laboratories and monitoring the quality of services provided through a supervision process according to organizational criteria. * If applicable, when selecting a reference laboratory service, conducting an evaluation of its background and technical capabilities, and requesting a copy of the license issued by a recognized authority, and a copy of the accreditation certificate or certification letter from a recognized laboratory accreditation or certification program. * Assisting in monitoring turnaround times for laboratory service requests, aiming to identify potential areas for improvement. * Assisting in identifying training needs for personnel under supervision, ensuring they receive the necessary training to perform their duties adequately, and promoting continuous updates. **Education:** Bachelor's Degree/Engineering.
