Our Optical Communications segment has just evolved from being a manufacturer of optical fiber and cable, hardware, and equipment into an industry-leading, end-to-end optical solutions provider, spanning the broader communications industry. This segment is divided into two primary product groups: Carrier Network and Enterprise Network. The Carrier Network product group consists primarily of products and solutions for optical fiber communication infrastructure supporting video, data, and voice services. The Enterprise Network product group consists primarily of optical fiber communication networks targeted at businesses, governments, and individuals for their own use. The Mechanical Design Supervisor leads a highly technical mechanical design team within Digital Engineering Solutions, supporting global product design and technology development programs. The role combines people leadership, technical contribution, cross\-functional program execution and capability development that supports group's mission \- We are transforming engineering and mechanical design for better development decisions, faster. This position is a hands\-on technical leadership role, responsible for both supervising engineers and directly contributing to growth of Digital Engineering Solutions capabilities in line with the strategy defined for the group. * Supervise and develop a team of mechanical design engineers by setting clear priorities, providing technical guidance, and supporting individual growth and capability development. * Ensure group focus around 3 core pillars \- Develop People, Deliver Results, Drive Quality. * Assure strong and healthy culture of the team in line with rest of the organisation. * Grow visibility of the team thought assuring participation in key Technology Projects and Programs. * Manage team workload, resourcing, and execution against project milestones, ensuring alignment with DES and Global Product Design/broader Technology priorities. * Partner with Project and Program Managers and global stakeholders to lead and execute workstreams for priority business and technology programs. * Partner with Manufacturing functions to ensure design correctness and cost position. * Ensure effective collaboration across regions and functions. * Contribute to assuring Digital Engineering Solution strategy relevantness and translation to shorter term roadmaps. **Required Skills** ------------------- * Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related technical/engineering discipline. * Minimum 3\-5 years of experience in engineering, product/process development, or manufacturing environment. * High level of initiative, ability to work with limited direction, and ability to work in a team environment. * Demonstrated experience in technical project leadership within multi\-disciplinary engineering teams. * Strong background in engineering, mechanical design, equipment development, and design\-for\-manufacturability principles. * Experience working in a global, matrixed organization with cross\-site collaboration. * Very good verbal, written, and presentation skills in English and Spanish. **Desired Skills** ------------------ * Prior supervisory or team\-lead experience in an engineering or development role. * Exposure to key aspects of product quality delivery, including product/applications engineering, measurement systems. * Knowledge of fiber optics and connectivity. * Problem\-solving and analytical capabilities. * Experience developing and validating value propositions and business cases for technology or capital investments. * Track record of engineering accomplishment. * Demonstrated track record of growing talent.
